Reinventing HPC

Homecoming for the HPC Community in Six Days

Hamburg, Germany, May 6 – In just six days, the eagerly anticipated ISC 2024 event for the global high performance computing (HPC) community will take place. Approximately 3,000 attendees from academic, research, and business sectors are expected to attend from May 12 to 16 to showcase their research and technological advancements, and discuss how the industry can collectively reinvent HPC.

With registrations streaming in from 51 countries, the ISC HPC community homecoming is truly a global event. Germany, the US, the UK, France, Japan, and China are leading the pack, showcasing the international appeal and reach of ISC 2024!

The ISC event series has always been at the forefront of recognizing technologies necessary for expanding the boundaries of high performance computing. This year, we are diving into the exciting intersection of HPC and artificial intelligence (AI), two fields that are increasingly being used together to push the limits of technical computing and drive new discoveries and innovations. The potential for groundbreaking advancements in, for example, scientific research and climate modeling is immense, and we are thrilled to bring this discussion to our attendees.

We have curated a diverse range of technical sessions, workshops, and tutorials on how AI can supercharge HPC. We have also included sessions beneficial for the AI community, SMEs, start-ups, and service providers, showcasing how HPC can benefit AI, especially in making generative models work with less data and computation. We are excited to see how these insights will inspire and drive innovation in the future.

Quantum computing (QC) is another important event focus. This year, QC has its own track and will be covered in tutorials, focus sessions, and workshops. The paper selected as the best research paper this year is also on quantum computing, namely the evaluation of the classical hardware requirements for large-scale quantum computations. The authors aim to improve the understanding of the technology needed to integrate a large-scale quantum computer with a classical supercomputer in the future.

The topic areas in the QC track include the integration of quantum computing and HPC, technologies and architectures, use cases, quantum-inspired algorithms, and the basics and theory of quantum computing for beginners. Additionally, attendees can explore available QC products and services at the exhibition.

The Exhibition (May 13 – 15)

Technology developers and providers are essential for advancing high performance computing. If you are a user seeking a product or service to meet your specific needs, interacting with exhibitors at ISC is essential. This year's exhibition will feature 159 exhibitors from 30 countries, including ISC platinum-level exhibitors Eviden, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft Azure, WEKA, and xFusion.

It is worth noting that 31 exhibitors are new to ISC. They will introduce their company and products in a one-minute program called First Time Exhibitor Pitch on Monday, May 13, which has been created specifically for them. This will be a great opportunity for ISC attendees to learn about what these companies bring to the table.

A well-attended program is the HPC Solutions Forum, which also takes place in the exhibition hall for three days. The unique thing about this program is that exhibitors will exclusively discuss topics the attendees want them to address, such as cloud computing, machine learning, performance optimization, and quantum computing.
